Water is the world’s vital fluid. It flows, bathes, dissolves, fertilizes, tempers. It is the main constituent of plants, animals and humans. Every living thing needs rain, rivers, lacs and reservoirs. Water, just the right amount... No surging or overflows that we protect ourselves from… Only enough to drink, wash, water, irrigate, fish, swim, but also to decorate, transport, run a turbine, chill, produce, break, drain away... Careful! It’s already starting to be a lot. Does humanity have enough water to make use of it for all those functions without altering it? Does it have enough water to leave its share to nature? Does it even have enough water to quench a part of itself in the slums and the dry soils? Half of the world’s population does not have access to good quality water nor to sanitation. What an injustice!

Water loads up with the materials that she comes cross of and the substances that we pour in. Everything ends up in the sea. Are we absolutely sure that the products that are released in have no incidence on our health? Pollutant’s impregnation on the environment has become worrying. It is no longer acceptable that water is mistreated, wasted, soiled. Each of us has to feel responsible.

Humanity is lucky enough to live on a planet at good distance of the sun where water is neither completely ice nor steam, but perfectly liquid. By heating the earth’s surface, as if we were coming closer to the sun, the climate change alters the water cycle, increases evaporation, creates torrential rains, reinforces heatwaves and hurricanes. How can we at the same time lessen it and adjust to it?

Those are the challenges that the French Water Academy wants to respond to, an original institution anxious to improve the management of the resources and the usages of water in France and in the rest of the world. The French Water Academy is an independent think tank which reunites the best talents in many disciplines, researchers, water specialist, entrepreneurs, diplomates, administration supervisors, development specialists, ecologists, doctors, teachers…

Together we work on making the economy aware of the natural balances, on enrolling public action in the long term, on promoting collective engagements respectful of human’s write in the water domain.
